Over the past few years, I've noticed something - couples don't want the cheese!
Gone are the days of Cha Cha Slide, Macarena and YMCA (and dare I say it - even Mr Brightside!) Okay maybe not Mr Brightside, but I've certainly seen it on the "Do Not Play" list often (I think it's one of those Marmite songs!). Don't get me wrong, there are still couples that love the cheese, but my point is that more and more couples are tired of hearing the same cheesy songs at nearly every wedding. And it’s not just Cha Cha Slide, Macarena, and YMCA. It's also songs from artists like Abba, Dolly Parton, Glee, Bruno Mars, Walk The Moon (Shut Up & Dance), D:Ream, Take That, and Bon Jovi (basically songs that you stereotypically associate with weddings).
2025 brings a surge in couples wanting music they partied to during their clubbing days (2010-2016) plus pop noughties bangers from the likes of Natasha Bedingfield, Shakira, Tinie Tempah, Pitbull, Taio Cruz, and Beyonce. What do I mean by "clubbing days" music? Artists like Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, Disclosure, David Guetta, Sub Focus, Fatboy Slim, Avicii, Rihanna, and Eric Prydz.
Now of course, a wedding consists of guests of all ages, so it's always wise to have a big mix of music to cater for everyone. BUT, couples want the emphasis to be on the the music they and their friends love. You might be surprised - older guests often end up tapping their toes too!
Sometimes it's quite hard to describe music in words 😂. So instead, I've put together a mix to explain what I mean, featuring those "clubby" artists I mentioned earlier. Enjoy!
